A message to GOP presidential candidates

GOP candidates: Do you care more about (a.) the future of America as a complete and stable country, or (b.) your own careers, at the expense of democracy? A lot of you have great ideas. Some are young enough to run again in four years. My plea to you, if your intentions are pure, is to drop out of the race. This is the only chance we have of a realistic primary competition. At this point, Trump supporters are not going to budge. Apparently, they are OK with complete stagnancy because they “like” him (and out of spite).

I’m not. Many traditional conservatives are with me. We don’t deny that Trump was an effective leader in spite of his personality flaws, but we are able to think rationally about his chances of successful progress if he were to win a second term. We need a GOP leader who won’t spend his entire term fighting lawsuits and the media and the brick wall of the left; a leader who appeals to independents and a slowly increasing band of third-party supporters.

So my appeal is to – right this moment – get together and select a frontrunner to run against Trump. Bow out of the race. Throw your support behind that frontrunner; explain to your constituents why it’s important for us to play nice. We simply cannot be too heavy-handed on domestic issues. We simply cannot antagonize the children.

Swallow your aspirations, at least for now, and get behind a serious candidate…

Otherwise, we will have no chance at righting the ship in 2024.
