I Hate Politics

Really, I do. I absolutely hate politics. I’m completely fed up with politics dominating our lives. You’re either on one side or the wrong side; there’s no middle of the road. Everything else takes a back seat to which side of the aisle you’re on. Everything. In this country, science is secondary to political affiliation. Expertise is meaningless, since the party and its propaganda outlets decide which narrative to endorse and which facts to ignore, and anoint their own “expert” spokespersons. Critical thinking is actively discouraged, misinformation actively spread, each political extreme seeking its own mindless mobs.

In the last few years, thousands of people have died unnecessarily because party comes before country, or its citizens.

The ex-president is currently under renewed fire for his politicization of the Covid crisis, which is a legitimate issue; he fucked up the Administration’s response from the get-go. But ignored in this most recent news cycle is that the majority in Congress picked up that ball and ran with it, weaponizing Covid to damage the Administration – at the expense of the health and well-being of the people – leaving local governments scratching their heads and creating a confusing mess of differing requirements and restrictions, all of which were based more on political considerations than public health considerations. It was as if they expect a virus could recognize when it crossed county lines…

For the best part of two years, no cohesive, thoughtful, apolitical leadership came out of Washington to combat a deadly disease that was running rampant across the nation. It still hasn’t. Media outlets still spread misinformation about the virus, and how to prevent exposure to it, then go wringing their hands over the misinformation spread by other media outlets.

Aaron Rogers is in the sights of “cancel culture” right now because of his foot-firmly-planted-in-mouth interviews about him testing positive for Covid-19, and “misleading” the public about his immunization status. Lost in the biased media coverage is the fact that he’s allergic to the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines, so can’t take them, and has legitimate concerns about the J&J vaccine’s side effects; blood clots are nothing to take lightly. This combination of circumstances prevented him from being vaccinated before he contracted the disease. Naturally, this is being ignored by the majority of media outlets and social media wags, who are only interested in pointing fingers and creating hate and discontent.

How often do you hear any media discussion of those people who simply can’t be vaccinated, whether or not they want it? Me, neither.

We are no longer a country “of the people, by the people, for the people.” It’s “of the party, by the party, for the party” and their corporate owners.

I hate politics.

  • Uncle John is the black-sheep relative your family doesn't want to admit to. He's a writer, old fart, anti-extremist, dyed-in-the-wool cynic, sci-fi nerd, and practicing to be a curmudgeon. More vegan than carnivore, but very much a Constitutional "originalist"; a walking, talking contradiction in terms, and a straight, no-holds-barred talker, who will tell it like it is with no apologies. Pacific Northwest native, married for many, many years to a woman he doesn't deserve, with no kids that will acknowledge them - except for the cat, who is merely tolerant.
